Things were not going well in September for 17-year-old Jamal Rutledge. He was sitting handcuffed in a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. police station being booked for criminal mischief and burglary charges by Officer Franklin Foulks. Ironically, things turned around for Rutledge when Officer Foulks collapsed with an apparent heart attack. Thinking quickly, Rutledge began shouting for help and kicking the security fence as hard as he could. His outburst got the attention of the other officers, who rushed to Foulks’ aid and were able to stabilize him until paramedics arrived. Doctors at the hospital have credited Rutledge’s quick action (along with the assisting officers) for saving Foulks’ life, and next week they will all be honored at a special ceremony. See, you never know what can happen when you get arrested!
